-This will make you a member of VMEA (Virginia Music Educators Association Conference) and VBODA (Virginia Band and Orchestra Directors Association) Also, you will receive the VMEA Notes magazine
If you are not a member of MENC, you must pay a non-member fee for each local and state activity in which your students participate. This fee is the same as the MENC membership fee.*Contact your VBODA Representative (also called VMEA Instrumental Rep)
-You can find contact info at www.vboda.org; select Instrumental Representatives
-Introduce yourself and ask that you be put on the District database for future communications
-Ask when the fall District meeting will be held
And if you are high school director:
Band & Orchestra: ask when the Senior Regional Orchestra auditions will be (usually in September or early October)
Orchestra: contact your Senior Regional Orchestra Rep (ask your District Rep or State String Rep for contact info)
Band: find out dates of State Marching Festivals (information can also be found at www.vboda.org)
*Register to attend the VMEA Conference in November, at www.vmea.com
- Get your room reservation early!
*Determine if your school has paid the manual fee for the current manual fee cycle by going to www.vboda.org, select Manual Fees, then view List of Schools
Schools that have not paid the manual fee are not permitted to participate in State or Concert Festivals (Band or Orchestra), or Solo & Ensemble Festival.
-Find your schools' copy of the Manual Music List CD. If you can not find it, contact the Manual Manager at www.vboda.org , then select Executive Board
-Find and review the VBODA Administrative Handbook
*High school band directors: Check www.vboda.org for contests you can attend, and make sure you meet State Marching Festival deadlines.
*Orchestra Directors: Be prepared to let your District Rep know what grade level of music you
plan to prepare and perform at District Concert Festival in March
-Use the Manual CD to determine grade levels of selections you are considering
-You must have 3 original conductor scores for each selection performed - order now!
-If pieces are out-of-print, you may use photocopied scores but YOU MUST HAVE A CURRENT LETTER OF PERMISSION FROM THE PUBLISHER. letters from music stores are not acceptable!

*Finalize your District Concert Festival selections
-Be on the lookout for Festival registration information and important due dates! Send forms in on time!

*Volunteer to be an event chair or event host
*High school band directors: Make sure your All-Virginia audition-eligible students receive audition information
*Participate in All-Virginia Bands and Orchestra Auditions
*Be on the lookout for Solo & Ensemble Festival registration information
*Participate in District Concert Festival
*High School Band Directors: Complete paperwork for Virginia Honor Band
If your top concert band received a "Superior" at Concert Festival, and your marching group received a "Superior" rating at State Marching Festival
*Middle & High School Band and Orchestra Directors: Complete paperwork for Virginia Music Educators Association "Blue Ribbon School"
If your top instrumental and choral groups organizations from your school received "Superior" at their respective Concert Festival. Fill out the application at www.vmea.com
*Participate in All-Virginia Band and Orchestra
*Attend VBODA General meeting at All-VA Band and Orchestra
*Begin planning your events for next year
*Check the VBODA website calendar (www.vboda.org) for state events, and your district calendar for local events
