Senior Regional Orchestra Audition Requirements – 2008

String Requirements

Scales shall be performed in the following format in all regions:
- All scales are to be performed from memory.
- Range: 3 octave scales for Violin, Viola & Cello / 2 Full octave scales for Bass
- The quarter note to be played at MM=120.
- All scales will be performed in the following bowing pattern:
  
  2 notes slurred, 2 notes martele on the ascending scale;
  4 notes slurred on the descending scale.
- A Prepared Piece will be required in all regions

Sight reading will be required in all regions.

Scales: All strings will prepare the following scales 3 octaves, except bass which are 2 full octaves. All major scales through 3 flats & 3 sharps and their relative melodic minors.

Audition requirements will be scored as follows: (Check: www.vboda.org for scale range info)

Major – 20 pts., Chromatic Scales – 20 pts, Prepared Etude/Excerpts – 30 pts, Sight reading – 30 pts.

The Prepared Etude/Excerpts were made available to participating directors.

Note: Percussion must audition on Timpani, Snare/Multiple Percussion & Mallets.
