AMHERST COUNTY HIGH SCHOOL AND THE AMHERST COUNTY HIGH SCHOOL BAND BOOSTERS ARE PROUD TO PRESENT The Ninth Annual AMHERST MARCHING BAND TOURNAMENT SEPTEMBER 20, 2008 MARK CAMPBELL , CONTEST COORDINATOR REGISTRATION: The deadline for registration is September 1, 2008. The registration fee is $100. Preference for performing position will be based on earliest postmark. FIELD: Field Turf. You and your students will love it. CLASSIFICATIONS: Determined by number of playing members, up to four classes AWARDS: An award will be given for First, Second, and Third Place in each class. First and Second Place awards will be given in each class for best Music, Marching, General Effect, Color Guard, and Percussion. The Grand Champion will be given to the band with the HIGHEST OVERALL score regardless of class. Music, Marching, and General Effect scores will be used. Rating plaques will be given to all bands. The 4th Annual J.R. Tucker Free-for-all is scheduled for September 20, 2008. The Free-for-all is a non-competitive marching band show that includes an on site workshop. There are no entrance fees, no admission cost and programs are free. In addition to the workshop, judges will give written and/or taped comments. The workshop is designed to be engaging for the students, but with an eye towards the V.B.O.D.A. State Marching Band Festival. Interaction between directors, students and judges is encouraged! King’s Fork High School would like to invite you to begin your competition season with us at the second annual King’s Fork Invitational located in Suffolk, VA. The marching contest will be an evening competition open to all bands. The show will be adjudicated by a panel from the National Judges Association and will be governed by the rules of TOB. There will be awards in each group classification for Best Effect, Music, Visual Performance, Drum Major, Percussion, and Auxiliary. Also, there will be an award for the Top 3 Placements in each group.

Fourth Annual Millbrook Pre-Festival Showcase
Morning Clinic Format and Afternoon/Evening Contest September 20, 2008The Showcase: Millbrook High School’s Fourth Annual Pre-Festival Showcase will offer two venues, a morning clinic exhibition and an afternoon/early evening contest. The clinic exhibition will provide an opportunity for your band to be critiqued without the pressure of competition. The contest will allow you to have your show evaluated early in the season and still enjoy the rewards of competition. Our goal is to provide an event that will give you several features: Clinic Format: Morning exhibition, adjudicators/clinicians meeting with students and directors on the field following the performance, critique using VBODA State Marching Festival forms, guard and percussion clinicians, and more. Clinicians will critique by caption. Contest Format: Caption judging based on VBODA criteria, use of state marching festival guidelines, different set of judges (you may want to participate in clinic and contest), awards, and more. The George Washington High School Band and Band Parent Association cordially invites all high school marching bands to celebrate the 31st anniversary of the DIXIE CLASSIC BAND COMPETITION SATURDAY,
SEPTEMBER 27TH, 2008 Our contest is open to any style of marching band. Classifications will be made after all applications have been received. Our football stadium is one of the finest in the area and every attempt will be made to hire quality judges that will provide educational and constructive comments for your program. There will be no application fee for applications received prior to August first. All other applications after this date will need to be accompanied by an entry fee of $100.00. There will be awards, trophies, and cash prizes given to all participating groups. Each class champion will receive a $100.00 cash prize, and Grand Champion awards will be given, including an A/AA grand champion, and an AAA/AAAA grand champion award. Please mark your calendars and join us this year! We especially would like to invite smaller groups to participate - we welcome all size bands! Applications will be sent out soon.
